ExxonMobil files for Baytown ammonia unit construction permit

Exxon filed to amend its existing permit in order to build the ammonia production unit at Baytown.

ExxonMobil has filed an application with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for a new ammonia production unit at its Baytown Chemical Plant.

The application does not include hydrogen or nitrogen production and seeks to remove several idled capacity from the existing permit.

Exxon says that the hydrogen production facility will be the world’s largest. It is expected to produce 1 billion cubic feet of low-carbon hydrogen daily, and more than 1 million tons of ammonia annually while capturing more than 98% of the associated CO2 emissions.
