Description

CF Industries’ green ammonia project at its Donaldsonville Complex.

The project includes an electrolysis system at Donaldsonville to generate carbon-free hydrogen from water that will then be supplied to an existing ammonia plant to produce green ammonia.

The project has an estimated annual production of 20,000 tons per year of green ammonia.

Green ammonia and conventional ammonia are chemically identical, which allows CF Industries to use its existing ammonia transportation and logistics networks.

CF Industries started construction of the project in Q4 2021.

Once produced, green ammonia and conventional ammonia are chemically identical. This will allow us to use our existing ammonia transportation and logistics networks to supply green ammonia to decarbonizing industries.

As of July 2024, CF Industries had completed the installation of the 20MW electrolyzer, and start-up was imminent.
