Description

A carbon capture and storage project located along the Gulf Coast in Southeast Texas.

Bayou Bend is a joint venture between Chevron U.S.A. Inc., through its Chevron New Energies division, TotalEnergies, and Carbonvert, Inc. TotalEnergies acquired the project when it acquired Talos Energy in March 2024.

Equity interests in Bayou Bend are 50 percent Chevron, 25 percent TotalEnergies and 25 percent Equinor. Effective March 1, 2023, Chevron became the operator of the LLC.

In August 2023, Equinor acquired a 25% stake in the project from Carbonvert. In March 2024, Talos entered into an agreement to sell its subsidiary Talos Low Carbon Solutions, including its stake in Bayoun Bend CCS, to TotalEnergies E&P USA.

The project encompasses nearly 140,000 acres of pore space for permanent CO2 sequestration. The total acreage holds a gross storage capacity of more than one billion metric tons.

In June 2024, Bayou Bend CCS filed for a Class VI permit application from the EPA for the project.
