Description
A large pilot plant in eastern Quebec.
The plant will use Captura’s technology — powered by hydroelectric dams — to suck 100 metric tons of CO2 from the ocean annually. If successful, the two companies plan to build one or more commercial facilities that could capture up to 1 million metric tons of CO2 each year.
The process uses just renewable energy and electrodialysis technology to capture CO2 directly from seawater as it passes through the plant. When the CO2-depleted seawater is returned to the ocean, it has the capacity to absorb the same quantity of CO2 from the air that was originally removed.
