Description
The plant has been operational since 2015.
Methanex has received International Sustainability & Carbon Certification for bio-methanol production at its Geismar 2 site in 2022. This certification enables sales to European fuel customers under the Renewable Energy Directive II.
A Geismar 3 project is under construction.
The bio-methanol is produced from renewable natural gas. In 2023, Methanex is also conducting a technical and economic feasibility study of using green hydrogen at existing plants to produce e-methanol.
