Description

In 2009, the Sweeny Gasification Project was selected by the Department of Energy to be awarded a $3 million Cooperative Agreement to share costs in the development of the project. Total cost $4.1 billion.

The project’s aim was to capture CO2 from its ConocoPhillips petcoke-based 683-megawatt IGCC power plant adjacent to its existing refinery. An estimated 85% of CO2 from the process stream would have been captured and subsequently sequestered or used for EOR.

ConocoPhillips did not apply for Phase 2 DOE funding.
