Bayou Bend CCS has filed for a Class VI permit application from the EPA for a carbon capture and sequestration project that would be capable of storing more than one billion metric tons.

The entity, a joint venture between Chevron, TotalEnergies, and Equinor, filed for the permit late last month.

The Bayou Bend project covers nearly 140,000 acres of pore space, making it one of the largest CCS projects in the Houston Ship Channel and Beaumont / Port Arthur industrial region.

Equinor acquired a 25% stake in the project from developer Carbonvert in August, 2023.
