Class VI well application filed for California CCS project

The project, located in California's Central Valley, would sequester CO2 captured from a nearby ethanol plant.

The proponents of the Tulare County Carbon Storage Project have filed an application for a Class VI injection well that would support carbon sequestration sourced from an ethanol plant in California.

The Tulare County Carbon Storage Project (TCCSP) is a Phase II CarbonSAFE Project located near Pixley, CA that is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL).

The project would sequester carbon captured from a nearby ethanol plant owned by Calgren Renewable fuels.

According to a flyer, the goal of the project is to evaluate the feasibility for geologic CO2 storage in the area and establish a commercial-scale carbon sequestration hub. The project team is focusing on evaluating logistical, economic, and stakeholder considerations to further develop the project.

The application for the Class VI well was filed in October, and the EPA already returned a letter noting that the application is administratively incomplete.
