Description

Air Liquide has built and developed a hydrogen facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada.

The plant is a $250 million investment.

The North Las Vegas facility aims to produce 30 tonnes of liquid hydrogen per day.

The plant will produce 30 tonnes per day of hydrogen from a steam methane reformer (SMR) process coupled with a hydrogen liquified.

The facility will be powered by fully renewable electricity through contractual agreements with the utility. When supplying the California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) mobility market, the facility can secure renewable natural gas through similar contractual agreements with the natural gas supplier to produce certified renewable hydrogen.

From renewable and low-carbon to traditional hydrogen, the facility has the flexibility to provide a range of production options.

Water used at the facility comes from the Colorado River at Lake Mead via the City of North Las Vegas network. The water consumption for the facility’s SMR is 52 gallons per minute (gpm), or approximately 9.7 gallons per kg of hydrogen produced. The cooling water tower requires an additional 147 gpm.

Natural gas used on-site is delivered via the Kern River pipeline, which also supplies natural gas to Las Vegas.

Construction began in early 2020, with operations and deliveries beginning in April 2022.
