Description
Clean Hydrogen Works and project shareholders Denbury Carbon Solutions and Hafnia are pursuing the development of Ascension Clean Energy, a clean hydrogen-ammonia production and export project. Mitsui joined as a JV shareholder in June 2023.
The project needs an estimated $7.5bn investment.
It is located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River in Donaldsonville’s industrial RiverPlex MegaPark.
The project is estimated to produce 7.2 million metric tons of ammonia annually. During its production process, ACE would capture an estimated 12 million metric tons of CO2 annually at a capture rate of up to 98 percent.
Denbury intends to install and maintain a 1.2-mile long, 20-inch CO2 pipeline at the location, to connect Denbury’s existing Green Pipeline system to the Ascension Clean Energy Project.
Additional technologies are being explored which could result in zero-carbon or even carbon negative hydrogen-ammonia production at the facility.
