Avina is developing an anhydrous ammonia facility in Robstown, near Corpus Christi, Texas, to meet domestic and global demands for green ammonia. The project is known as Nueces Green Ammonia.
The project production capacity is 2,200 tons per day, amounting to a total capacity of 800,000 mtpa. It will be powered with 100% renewables.
Avina Clean Hydrogen Inc has signed long term offtake agreements for 100% of the first phase of the project.
Avina plans to ramp the plant in two phases. The first phase, which has an expected production capacity of 100,000 mtpa, is expected to become operational in 2025. Phase 2 will reach COD in 2026. Phase 3 will reach COD in 2027.
A FID was originally expected in Q1 2024, then in Q2 2024. It is now expected in Q3 2024.
As of February 2024, Avina is raising some $2.5bn in debt and equity for the project, with a roughly 60/40 split between equity and debt.
In June 2024, Nueces Green Ammonia received a positive preliminary decision to construct the facility from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, despite strong opposition from the local community.
