Description
A green methanol facility in central Louisiana with a production capacity of 400,000 metric tons of green methanol per year. The green methanol is expected to be used as marine fuel by A.P. Moller – Maersk’s fleet of methanol-powered container vessels.
The facility will utilize wood fiber from local forests.
The methanol will have a negative carbon intensity through the sequestration of around a million tons per year of carbon dioxide produced by the project, which will be executed by Denbury Carbon Solutions.
The project is located at the former International Paper facility in Rapides Parish.
Beaver Lake Renewable Energy, LLC was formed in July 2023 and it is a wholly-owned subsidiary of SunGas Renewables.
In May 2024, SunGas Renewables and C2X LLC formed a strategic partnership and announced an investment by C2X in convertible preferred stock issued by SunGas. The partnership aims to develop, own, and operate multiple green methanol production facilities in North America and the support the Beaver Lake project.
