Description

The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois is leading an effort to promote technologies that can capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The effort includes the development of a DAC hub in the Illinois Basin, a proven geological storage strata stretching under Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky.

As of August 2024, DAC business developers at the university were seeking $500m in private investment for the hub. The US DOE is expected to match the $500m.
