Description

Kemmerer Decarbonization Works plans to supply low-carbon intensity ammonia to customers in the agriculture, energy, and/or other end market(s) for a sustainable future.

The KDW facility is planned to be constructed at the site of the Kemmerer Mine, located in Kemmerer, Wyoming, and would repurpose Wyoming coal.

Kemmerer Decarbonization Works plans to combine four processes to manufacture low-carbon intensity ammonia: coal gasification, ammonia synthesis, electricity generation, and CO2 sequestration.

KDW would connect to existing and/or new CO2 transportation and storage facilities, resulting in the sequestration of over 90% of potential carbon emissions from its production processes in rock formations deep underground.

KDW’s preferred alternative would be to pipe into the existing CO2 system in the state owned by ExxonMobil for sequestration. Alternatively, KDW would connect to its own sequestration projects in central Wyoming.

Once the pre-FEED study is launched, the project has a roughly 18 – 24 month process leading up to FID, followed by an anticipated three years of construction. That means the project could be operational in 2028.

Kemmerer Decarbonization Works is being developed by ACT (Wyoming) Development, LLC., which is a joint venture between Glenrock Energy, LLC and Kanata America, Inc.

In May 2024, Glenrock Energy hired an advisor to raise $33m in development capital for the project. Glenrock is working with RBC Capital Markets on the capital raise, which includes pre-FID development capital as well as eventual construction financing.
