The project includes the upgrade of SAF distribution equipment, storage facilities, and rail off-loading capabilities at four existing Buckeye terminals. In August 2024, the project was awarded $24 million as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Fueling Aviation’s Sustainable Transition (FAST) discretionary grant program.
The project combines Marquis’ ethanol production capabilities and existing logistics resources with leading ethanol-to-jet technology providers and U.S. supply chain capabilities to produce, blend, distribute and store SAF. In August 2024, the project received $9.8 million as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Fueling Aviation’s Sustainable Transition (FAST) discretionary grant program.
The ADM plant in Decatur is home to a Class VI CO2 storage well, which has stored well over a million tons of CO2 over the last decade.
Monarch Energy is considering a sustainable aviation fuel facility in Rockford, Illinois. The plant would supply SAF to the Rockford International Airport. The facility would use the emissions from nearby landfills that are overburdened with waste from metro areas, converting them into SAF.
The expansion of Aether Fuel’s demo facility in Chicago. Aether Fuels makes fuels using waste carbon streams, such as captured CO2, industrial waste gases, municipal solid waste, agricultural residues, and waste biomass. In December 2023, Aether Fuels announced it raised $8.5m in pre-Series A financing via convertible notes from a global syndicate including JetBlue Ventures, TechEnergy… Continue reading Aether Fuels | Chicago Facility
Avina is developing an electrolytic liquefaction facility on-site with a greenfield hybrid renewable energy solution. Avina is developing the project with Messer America. The facility will produce liquid hydrogen from renewables-driven electrolysis. In its initial phase, it will have a production capacity of 15 metric tons per day. The plant could ultimately be scaled up… Continue reading Avina Northern Illinois | Liquified Green Hydrogen for Industry
Avina’s Ethanol to Jet Sustainable Aviation Fuel Facility will convert low-carbon ethanol into a jet fuel. The facility, engineered to produce 120 million gallons of SAF annually, will utilize alcohol-to-jet production technology pathway. The end product will be certified to meet ASTM D7566 standards. FEED is expected to kick off in Q2 2024, and as… Continue reading Avina Midwest | SAF (Ethanol to Jet)
BP Carbon Solutions will develop a carbon storage hub located around its Whiting Refinery in Lake County, Indiana, with a project area that includes Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan. The project was selected for CarbonSAFE Phase III: Site Characterization and Permitting. It has completed studies of subsurface conditions and will now focus on conducting detailed site… Continue reading BP Whiting Refinery Carbon Storage Hub
Battelle Memorial Institute will conduct a feasibility study to advance carbon capture and storage in the Southeastern Illinois Basin. The project was selected for CarbonSAFE Phase II: Storage Complex Feasibility, and will perform technical, economic, and community assessments for potential CO2 storage complexes. It’s among 16 projects selected by the U.S. Department of Energy in… Continue reading Battelle Southeastern Illinois Basin CCS
CapCO2 Solutions develops green methanol-producing technology that fits in a shipping crate. The shipping crate can be placed at ethanol plants and use the carbon captured to produce green methanol. 8 to 10 shipping crates would be able to process all the carbon captured at an average ethanol plant, and make green methanol out of… Continue reading CapCO2 | Adkins Green Methanol Pilot Project
