Vault 44.01 is developing three carbon sequestration wells in Indiana. The firm, which is owned by Grey Rock Investment Partners, submitted applications for two wells in Madison and Wabash counties in summer 2024. Previously, the company filed its first Class VI application in 2023 for a one-well site, also in Indiana. Vault has entered into… Continue reading Vault 44.01 | Indiana Sequestration Wells
The project includes the upgrade of SAF distribution equipment, storage facilities, and rail off-loading capabilities at four existing Buckeye terminals. In August 2024, the project was awarded $24 million as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Fueling Aviation’s Sustainable Transition (FAST) discretionary grant program.
Tenaska is advancing a sequestration hub in Indiana. Tenaska’s base facility has 5 million metric tons per year of storage capacity, plus the necessary pipeline infrastructure to bring the emissions in. The base facility design costs approximately $500m to build, with variations depending on the land position, site geology, and required pipeline miles.
United States Steel Corporation and CarbonFree have signed an April 2024 definitive agreement to capture carbon emissions generated from U. S. Steel’s Gary Works Blast Furnaces. The project will use CarbonFree’s SkyCycle™ technology to capture and mineralize up to 50,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year and will have the opportunity to be expanded… Continue reading US Steel | Gary Works Blast Furnaces SkyCycle CCS
A liquified green hydrogen plant in Northern Indiana. The hydrogen produced at this facility will be used by industrial customers looking to decarbonize hard-to-abate aspects of their processes. 15 tonnes per day production capacity.
BP Carbon Solutions will develop a carbon storage hub located around its Whiting Refinery in Lake County, Indiana, with a project area that includes Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan. The project was selected for CarbonSAFE Phase III: Site Characterization and Permitting. It has completed studies of subsurface conditions and will now focus on conducting detailed site… Continue reading BP Whiting Refinery Carbon Storage Hub
The potential carbon capture retrofit of unit 4 at the Tanners Creek power plant. The project was canceled in 2014 after a feasibility study due to financial concerns. The Tanners Creek Plant was retired in 2015.
The development of the Centerpoint Biorefinery in Gary, Northwest Indiana. The facility is expected to convert about 530,000 tons per year of feedstock from processed waste into about 31 million gallons of synthetic crude oil, which will then be processed into low-carbon jet fuel. In May 2024, as reported by Bloomberg, Fulcrum Bioenergy laid off… Continue reading Fulcrum | Centerpoint SAF Facility
PCC Hydrogen has a pilot plant at POET ethanol facility in Cloverdael, Indiana. The pilot plant has an hydrogen offtake from Siox, LLC. The pilot’s aim is to showcase the conversion of ethanol into green hydrogen using a patented reforming process coupled with the capture of the processes’ pure CO2 byproduct. The company has engaged… Continue reading PCC Hydrogen | Ethanol-To-Hydrogen Pilot Plant
The Midwest Hydrogen Hub network spans Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan, with the potential to expand into other Midwestern states. Located in a key U.S. industrial and transportation corridor, the Midwest Hydrogen Hub will enable decarbonization through strategic hydrogen uses including steel and glass production, power generation, refining, heavy-duty transportation, and sustainable aviation fuel.
