Synthica breaks ground at San Antonio RNG facility

The San Antonio project, Synthica's second, is expected to be completed in 2026.

Cincinnati-based Synthica Energy has broken ground today on a new Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Plant in San Antonio, according to a news release.

Synthica Energy closed an equity investment from the Infrastructure Business within Goldman Sachs Asset Management last year.

The San Antonio project is expected to be completed in 2026. Located at 4318 N IH 35 in Bexar County, the facility will be the first of its kind in San Antonio and is expected to divert nearly 250,000 tons of waste from local landfills each year. Food and beverage manufacturers and other customers will supply organic inputs for anaerobic digestion.

Grant Gibson, Co-Founder and Chief Development Officer of Synthica Energy: “We’re building a national platform that’s fusing new technology with environmental consciousness and sustainability, and creating a mutually beneficial opportunity for the markets we’re serving.”

Synthica San Antonio is Synthica’s second RNG facility. Last year, construction began on the first facility developed by Synthica – “Synthica St. Bernard” – in Cincinnati, which is expected to be operational in early 2025.

In addition to Cincinnati and San Antonio, development targets include Houston, Atlanta, Louisville and New Orleans. Synthica also plans to develop clean energy facilities in Florida, Illinois, Missouri, New York and Pennsylvania.
