Description
The development of a carbon capture and storage facility at Heidelberg Materials’ cement plant in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
The full-scale project is expected to capture over 1 million tonnes of CO₂ annually as of 2026, up to 95% of the plant’s total CO₂ emissions.
Heidelberg Materials and the Government of Canada successfully completed a Memorandum of Understanding in support of Heidelberg Materials’ project in April 2023. The Government of Canada will invest in the facility.
The project would be supported by Enbridge’s Open Access Wabamun Carbon Hub, a carbon sequestration hub where the plant’s carbon emissions would be transported via pipeline and permanently sequestered.
The company anticipates FID in 2024.
