Description
The development of Point Tupper green hydrogen production plant by EverWind Fuels in Point Tupper, Nova Scotia.
The green hydrogen production plant is located on the site of a former storage terminal previously owned by US energy transport company NuStar.
Point Tupper is a multi-phase green hydrogen and ammonia production and export facility, which is expected to reach commercial operation in 2026.
The project will use PEM electrolyzers, and ammonia synthesis technology from Casale S.A. to convert water from man-made Landrie Lake and energy primarily from newly-built wind farms into green hydrogen and green ammonia.
In November 2023, EverWind and Export Development Canada reached an agreement in principle on terms for a CAD 125m debt facility to support the project, pending final due diligence.
The CBC reported EverWind expected to take a final investment decision early in 2024. In April 2024, EverWind Fules completed the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and Front-End Loading Engineering (FEL-3) with Black & Veatch.
In June 2024, EverWind Fuels filed a document showing it secured equity funding for the project. The document notes that EverWind has signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with Bayside Development Corporation (Paqtnkek) and Potlotek Development Corporation for minority equity investments.
