Tallgrass Energy has made applications for five more Class VI carbon dioxide injection wells in Wyoming, in support of its Eastern Wyoming Sequestration Hub.
Kansas-based Tallgrass filed its first application in early 2023 for the project, in Laramie County. The company is proposing to convert natural gas pipelines to carbon dioxide and collect emissions from sources in the region, potentially storing up to 10.6 million metric tons of CO2 per year.
The estimated cost of the project is between $1.5bn and $2bn, according to a local news report.
Wyoming and South Dakota are the only two states with primacy over Class VI well permitting.
